Who said the title of the all time, flyest diva was only meant for the human lady that is as artistic as she is demanding? Not this quite clever CSIRO researcher. Behold, a fly discovered over thirty years ago and her glamorous golden lower abdomen–beyoncae.
Bryan Lessard, the scientist responsible for all this frenzy decidedly named this fly Scaptia (Plinthina) beyoncae because the fly’s brilliant gold color makes it the “all time diva of flies”.
He adds,
“It was the unique dense golden hairs on the fly’s abdomen that led me to name this fly in honour of the performer Beyoncé as well as giving me the chance to demonstrate the fun side of taxonomy – the naming of species”.
Fun indeed!
But it’s not just the radiant sexy abs that his fly has in common with the newest mommy to hit the tabloid radar, beyoncae’s species happens to have been collected in 1981, the same year Beyoncé was born.
Now, if that doesn’t make you go OMG…
