Michelle Williams, Charlize Theron and Busy Philipps at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards
The Golden Globes happened last Sunday (in case you’ve been living under a rock) and naturally everyone immediately always talks about the dresses (and we’ll talk tons tomorrow, so stay tuned!), but what about the one single detail that either make or break the dress?
I’m sure we can all agree that having a hot messy hairstyle will ruin the most ravishing of couture dresses.
So on that note… here are 5 GORGEOUS red carpet hairstyles we loved. These dos didn’t outshine the dress, some were styled just to look clean and tamed, others did their job by simply complimenting the entire look.
Our favorite hairstyle of the night was actually a red carpet trend! In the image above you’ll find some of Hollywood’s beautiful ladies donning headbands. Michelle Williams in a vintage Fred Leighton for Forevermark headband, Charlize Theron in a blinged out Cartier headband and Busy Philipps in a simple, yet feminine slither of a headband.

Paula Patton at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards
Paula Patton went for a very a girly, traditional do. ”I envisioned a style with the sophisticated sexiness of Brigitte Bardot,” hairstylist Robert Steinken told PEOPLE of the cascading waves look he created. He used Morrocanoil Frizz Control on Paula’s damp tresses before making a center part, pulling hair back close to the sides of her head and creating spirals with a one-inch curling iron.

Nicole Richie at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards
This hairstyle may have had to grown on some people before they started to actually “love” it. It’s a different yet classic take on the otherwise common ponytail. Nicole wore sections of hair from her temples pinned back to create a pretty steep bump–if she had added one more inch, she would’ve been channeling the Jersey Shore. BUT she didn’t, so she doesn’t. It’s more old Holywood than anything.

Claire Danes at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards
Claire Danes wore a gorgeous statement dress whose party was on the backside. Therefore, she went with a simple hairstyle that just acted as a backdrop to her sensational look. To soften the geometric neckline of her J. Mendel dress Claire went for a soft, feminine bun. The look was secured with only two hair pins, says her stylist Peter Butler.

Salma Hayek at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards
Salma Hayek wow’d, us as usual, with her plump knockers, but it was her art deco inspired dress by Gucci that actually stole the show. Her sultry curves worked the dress beautifully, but it was her hair that helped complete the look. Stylist Robert Vetica achieved perfect waves with the help of a half-inch curling iron and extensions.
